Results Round 10 – No charity shown to opposition

The farmers should be proud of themselves this week, scoring points with both Hockey Victoria and the Cancer Council after a very impressive charity round.
The club raised over $900 in donations for the Cancer Council, after a massive effort from a large number of members and players.
A huge thanks goes to everyone involved, as results like this encourage future endeavours just like it!

Mens 1s
The boys were looking for redemption against Werribee HC, after losing to them in the first match of the season. Bolstered by the return of ex-farmer Jack Menzie, the game started out as a tussle after Monash went one man down early on. Werribee went into half time 1-0 up, and despite strong performances all around the ground the game finished 2-0 to Werribee.

Mens 2s
The 2s were also looking to improve after being unlucky to come away only one point in round 1. Marty Fielke put the boys on the board early with a penalty corner drag flick, and was unlucky to have a later reverse stick goal disallowed. Zeming Zhou has found a new home in the centre midfield position, and put in another excellent performance. The boys had the run of play for most of the match but were unable to convert any opportunites, leaving them elated at the final whistle after gutting it out to win 1-0.

Womens 1s
Round 10 was a big game for the girls, with high hopes to put some points between themselves and Dandenong. Unfortunately the score didn’t go Monash’s way, with the game resulting in a 3-1 loss. There were some positives however, with the girls displaying some quality hockey with strong ball movement and high work rate. Shout out to Therese McArthur in goals, who doubled up and played lights out, saving two strokes on the day.

Womens 2s
In the 2s, the results went a little differently. At half time the girls had dominated play but the scoreboard only showed a 1-0 lead. The Monash girls regrouped and came back out firing. The girls had the scoreboard ringing like a pinball machine, using their pace and team work to smash balls in the net. The complete team game, Monash had six different goalscorers and walked off the field 10-1 victors. Are we any bloody good? You bet.
Goals to Jasmine Sylivris (3), Valerie Bell (2), Mikaela Day (2), Lauren Naughton, Harriet Houghton and Kate Gibson.

Mens 3s
The mens 3s closed out the farmdome charity round in style, notching their first win of the season against Powerhouse. James Green scored the sole goal of the game, completing a dominating performance not seen since the 2003 Brisbane Lions or the 2007 New England Patriots. Coach Trent Bussell couldn’t be reached for comment after the match, having had his mouth surgically closed for health reasons after excessive grinning.

Mens 4s
It was a tale of two cities for the boys of the fours this week, as they went up against the top-of-the-table Hawthorn side. Playing hard for the full seventy minutes, they were unable to contend with the quality of their opposition and went down 0-11, despite showing the resolve and determination that Dickens himself would have been proud of. Coach Britto was keen for an interview after the match, but lost focus when informed that there was in fact no number 1 pick in sight.

Womens 3s
The Fighting Tambourines have continued their unbeaten streak to a stunning seven weeks. Putting their foot down early, the girls smashed in three goals in the first half, leaving the opposition red-eyed and sniffling. They sealed the win in the second with an additional goal, sending Altona packing 4-2.
Goals to Emma Lightbody, Whitney Sylviris, Jacqui Kitchen and Edwina Fry

Womens 4s
The Legion of Boom came up against a strong ECHO side this week, going down 1-0 in a tough loss. The girls are poised to make a strong finals run, and their coach has been heard to be recruiting Harley Bennell for expert advice on bye weekend activities.

Monash U10s
An unfortunate weekend for our most junior side, going down to Doncaster 16-0. Coach Mel Morton was being held back from entering the game and later was torn on whether to put herself down on next weeks team sheet or launch an official enquiry into PED use in the division. ¿Por qué no los dos?

Monash U14s
The players would have had to stand on each others shoulders to see over a win this big, after Monash downed Southern United Red 2-1. Springing themselves into the top four, the farmers will be looking to continue their three game win streak after recovering from a very rowdy Friday night of too many snakes and wayyyy too much red cordial.
