A coach on debut and a lack of goalkeeper may be enough to put most teams off their game, but not the Women’s Pennant D side, who are this week’s team of the week.
Starting strong right out of the gate, they took an early lead and went into halftime up 2-0, only to face some resistance in the second half.
The early goals to Verity Wai-Smith and Chloe Badcock, who scored out of a nice short corner option, gave the team some breathing room even after Essendon put a goal in with about ten minutes to go.
The rock-solid backline held strong thanks to Tivey, Wendy, Penny as Sweeper, and a best-on-ground performance from Alice ‘Lefty’ Wright, as the girls closed out a 2-1 win.
