It has been known for quite some time now that the fiercest Australian sporting rivalries are as follows:
5. Some rugby one probably
4. Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory
3. Carlton vs Collingwood
2. Monash Uni HC vs MUHC
1. Mens 4s vs Mens 5s
And so with the first whistle and touch of the ball, all sense of camaraderie and togetherness went out the window, as the two Mens Metro B South teams battled it out for the title of victor.
Those fortunate enough to witness the game saw an end-to-end flurry of attack and defence, both teams putting in goals with ease.
Nicholas Hunt-Smith must have been close to BOG, as he put an early goal in and assisted many others with his speedy attack down the wing.
Sikandar Chauhan gave the opposition defence headaches with his burst of pace and silky skills from the right midfield.
Shyam โShaggaโ Barr was excellent in the middle, thwarting opposition build-up and counter-attacking all game.
On the other side of the ground the 5s were well served by Dustin Haines and Simon Laffanโs unpredictable offensive display.
A spectators delight, the game was 4-2 at half time and the crowd were on the edge of their seat. A Rocket Eade-esque halftime spray from coach Marty Dowman saw the 5s put another goal on the board in the second half, but the 4s emerged triumphant with the final score 5-3.
