The Monash Farmers dropped the ploughs and picked up their brooms this week, with the top four teams going undefeated in Round 7.
Mens 1s
Stinging from a tough loss in Bendigo last week, the Mens 1s came out with a point to prove against Greater Dandenong. The Monash defence were rock solid from start to finish, with the starting a backline of Trent Bussell, Marty Dowman and Vish Patel ensuring the GD Warriors never looked like scoring.
Once again Monash created many chances up front, but lacked that finishing touch. Jayson Hammond and Ryan Pettit converted their field chances and the boys finished 2-0 victors.
Womens 1s
The Monash Women’s 1s team showed their true colours on the weekend, taking home their first win of the season! Up against La Trobe at their home ground, the game was a nailbiter and a fight to the end! Some nifty work up front saw Cass, Holly and Nat score, the game coming to an end with a 3-2 win. Are we any bloody good?
Mens 2s
The 2s boys continued their steamrolling of the competition, with another 6-0 victory. A carbon copy of last week, the farmers slotted four goals in the first half and two goals in the second. The dynamic midfield duo of Ash Pandey and Adam Williams fed the forwards all day, and they even managed to find the time to slot a couple of their own.
Goals: Marty Fielke (2), Stephen Bird, Adam Williams, Ned Dann, Ash Pandey
Womens 2s
Our 2s were next to battle it out on the field, hoping to bag a few more points for the season! Both of the evenly-matched teams showed their strengths, with Wendy Opie the sole goalscorer for Monash. 1-1 draw.
Mens 3s
Mens 3s lost 5-0 to Camberwell at the state hockey centre.
Mens 4s
A 9-0 loss to Doncaster at home.
Womens 3s
The bass and treble of the Fighting Tambourines is being heard throughout Women’s Pennant D as the girls conquered the previously undefeated MUHC team 4-0.
Farmers everywhere revelled in our rivals’ loss, and it prompted this invaluable exchange of coaching wisdom:
Chitto: My fear is that my team will never understand me… You flogs! We won again! [Cheers] This is good. But what is best in life?
Birdman: An open house party, ale flowing freely, a couple of sausages, and the wind in your hair.
Chitto: Wrong! Ando, you flog! What is best in life?
Ando: To crush MUHC 4-0, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their coaches!
Chitto: [Cheers]…That is good.
Womens 4s
Coming off some solid results in Metro B South, the Legion of Boom were facing the top-of-the-table Southern United. The girls got off to a great start at home, with Katherine Vuong sending them into the half-time break up 1-0. However United showed some strength and put in an equaliser in the second half, forcing the draw.
Womens Masters A grade
Essendon came out hard and had 2 goals on the board within the first 12 mins or so despite some great defense and tough, even play in the centre of the field. We quickly collected ourselves and had the run of play leading up to half time. Our teamwork improved and we had some good attacks in the 2nd half with Val slotting a lovely goal. Overall a very competitive game, of which the highlight was listening to the umpire give the Essendon ‘ladies’ a spray for excessive and uncalled for use of their elbow!ย First time in a long time these ‘ladies’ had been pulled up for the rough way they play.
