Results Round 13 – Farmdome 3.0

The farmers’ competitive spirit was only lightly dampened this week, as teams look to secure their ladder position for an assault on the soon-approaching finals.

Womens 1s:
Our Womens 1 welcomed Melon back to the coaching team this week, excited for her fantastic coaching but more importantly her great half time snacks. That food was well deserved at half time, with the girls holding Melbourne Uni to 0-0. The highly ranked MUHC came out of half-time firing, putting 3 on the board. Tayla Wilmont, our South African exchange student, wasn’t going to let her last game go down without a fight and slotted a lovely goal in on a short corner. The 1s now have a few close games to win to secure their position on the ladder.

Womens 2s:
The 2s have found their groove in the competition, showing what team work can really do. The game was a close one with the half time scoreboard reading 0-0. Knowing that they had it in them, the girls kept fighting hard to get goals. Monash managed to work their magic and scored two, both finished by Cass David. Unfortunately Melbourne Uni also managed to put two in the net, with both teams taking home a point.

Mens 1s:
The men faced a tough match this week, coming up against an in-form Knox side with a number of players unavailable to play. Luck continued to go against them as they lost one man early, midfielder Jack Frantz unable to continue playing due to injury. Despite another week of solid play from Trent Bussell, Marty Dowman and the recently feared-dead Patrick Neville, Knox were able to put two goals in before half time. Ultimately the setbacks were too much to overcome, although the outstanding effort from the boys until the final whistle will be encouraging for future weeks.

Mens 2s:
The reserves also had themselves a battle, with their opposition dropping just one of their last seven games. An outstanding showing from Justin Boutchard helped keep Monash in touch, while Prasad Palanisamy and Adam Williams both gave strong performances. Down 0-2 at half time, Stephen Bird managed to peg one back in the second half but the boys fell 1-3 at the final whistle. Super-sub Ivan Britto was overheard in conversation with (soon-to-be) Dr Pandey, discussing the latest stem-cell and gene therapy techniques in an effort to get Britto through his next game.

Womens 3s:
The fighting tambourines haven’t just been peaking at the right time, but all the time, having remained undefeated in their last 10 matches. This week they played the second-placed Knox in a competitive game that remained close throughout. 1-1 at half-time, the teams were unable to separate themselves and finished at 2-2, thanks to a two-goal performance from Emma Lightbody. Coach Anderson was unavailable for comment, too busy googling which Death Grips lyrics best suited his post-game speech.

Womens 4s:
As the Legion of Boom look to enter finals contention, they made sure to separate themselves from the bottom of the table with a 5-0 drubbing of Casey. With third-place to sixth-place separated by only one game, the girls have just four more matches to secure their place in the finals. The final round match against Bayside looks to be a promoters dream, as it may well decide who makes it through to the postseason.

Mens 3s:
The boys faced off against the highly ranked MUHC this week, ultimately going down 0-14. The 3s have been going up against heavyweights all season, but putting in effort each week and are looking to be more competitive next year.

Mens 4s:
The Monash Mens 4s continue to improve, putting more points on the board after a 1-1 draw with Greensborough this week. Finding themselves behind at half-time, a late goal to Matty McIndoe and some outstanding defence kept the game even at the full-time whistle.
