In the words of the great philosophers McKenzie and Clement, it’s business time. With finals fast approaching, check in with our teams and where they are in their quest for the trophy.
Womens 1s
4-1 loss to GD Warriors
The girls started the day off with a bang. Good vibes and knowing the game would be a close one, Monash managed to put the first goal on the board early on. Some quick ball movement in the circle from the forwards resulted in Mikaela Day slotting one home. Despite other close opportunities to score, the girls were unable to convert. Dandenong stepped up their game and were able to put four goals in the net. Unfortunately this puts Monash at a tough position on the ladder, meaning the next few weeks will be crucial.
Womens 2s:
10-1 win against GD Warriors
Dandenong were no match again for our Vic League 1 Reserves. The girls have been hungry for goals this season and proved once again they know how to put them in the net. Meg Young showed her skills on the forward line and highlighted the importance of being on the post, putting two goals in early on. This then inspired her team mates, with the other goals going to Lauren Naughton (3), Kate Gibson (2), Cass David (3). A great win for the girls.
Mens 1s:
After a close match in their first meeting, Monash were fired up for their game against the CV Blazers, and it certainly showed on the field. Both teams are fighting for a spot in the final four, and their zealousness was evident from the first blow of the whistle. Another spectacular game from Marty Dowman even had him wander into the attacking circle, and despite seeing it for the first time he managed to orientate himself long enough to smash in a goal. Another goal to Jimmy Morrow kept the boys in it, with the final score ending at 2-2.
Mens 2s:
If the 2s boys were looking to make a statement on their march to finals, they couldn’t have done it better than their demolition of a hapless CV Blazers side on Saturday. The retired Damien McArthur managed to hitch a ride on the bandwagon, and the 2s were also aided by the return of Florian Krettek, who played an excellent game in his return from the north. Despite some confusion after Coach Steve James ran out of fingers to count on, the final goal tally came to a positively delightful 15-0.
Goals to: Florian Krettek (3), Stephen Bird (3), Adam Williams (2), Damien Mays (2), Zeming Zhou (2), Ashish Pandey, Josh Otten, Damien McArthur
Womens 3s:
The Fighting Tambourines were hoping to cement their place inside the top four, but fell 2-3 to a visiting ECHO side. With 3 tough but winnable games on the horizon, the girls will be fighting for their spot in a very tight race for finals.
Womens 4s:
The Legion of Boom got the job done this week, defeating Waverley 1-0 away. The girls sit just two points outside the top four at the moment, but face two tough games against top four sides as they try and sneak into a finals berth.
Mens 3s:
The boys faced the highly-ranked Essendon away this week, and went down 0-9.
Mens 4s:
Playing at home the 4s battled well against a solid Camberwell side, but ultimately fell 0-3.
Womens Masters A Grade:
A grade started short of players but had a full team by 15 mins in. The game against Camberwell was hard work with Monash defending for about 80% of the game. Considering that, a 0-0 was a great result.
Womens Masters B Grade:
Starting the game with just nine players, Monash felt the impact and in the blink of an eye TEM had scored 3 goals. A 10th player arrived and the rest of the game was fairly even with both teams scoring a goal. The final score was 4-1 down.
Mens 35BNW:
Lost to Geelong 0-8 at the State Netball and Hockey Centre.
Mens 35BSE:
A tight battle that saw all goals scored in the second half, the masters topped Southern United 3-2. The guys have now one four on the trot, and sit just one point out of the top four with four games remaining.
U10:
The juniors were defeated by Waverley 0-3.
U14:
